Grape Leather

The Sustainable and Stylish Eco-Friendly Alternative

Grape Leather

Also known as grape skin leather or wine leather, is a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional leather made from animal hides. It is produced by upcycling the byproducts of the wine and grape juice industries, specifically grape skins, seeds, and stems. These byproducts are often discarded during the winemaking process.

1. In a world where we are all trying to have a positive impact on the planet, fashion choices can be crucial. In this way, GT Portugal is committed to responsible production, always having in mind how our production can affect our future lives.

2. We wear shoes all throughout the day so it is important that they are high quality, which is mainly defined by the materials that are used in their production. Sneakers are made from a large range of materials, most of them that are not degradable, and carry a huge environmental footprint.

3. It’s important to realize that shoe manufacturing consumes a huge amount of energy, making it imperative to change the way they are produced. Not only that but the fact that thousands of million sneakers are thrown away every year and they take 30 to 40 years to decompose, making it imperative to change the way they are produced.

4. Although it's difficult to assemble a complete eco-friendly product, we are searching for new materials to try to make it as low impact and comfortable as possible.

5. With that said, we think Grape Leather is a great material for the production of sneakers since it’s a more sustainable product then the animal leather and it’s a breathable material.

6. Meanwhile we are focusing on being more sustainable, we still want our customers to feel satisfied with the products they're buying and for that we also prioritize the qualities of our shoes. In that way we are producing sneakers, not only biobased but also very comfortable, stable, durable, extremely soft and fashionable.

A type of eco-friendly alternative to animal leather

Low Environmental Impact

This material has lower ecological and carbon impacts, being a friendlier alternative once it uses a reduced quantity of water that is recyclable and it replaces animal leather, which has one of the highest emissions of GHG.

Bio-based Raw Material

Grape Leather is produced from the bio-oils extracted from the grapes that are dried and combined with natural fibers, originating into a soft plant-based leather.

Recycled Waste

Since this type of leather is made from the recycling of the waste of the winery market it helps applying circular economic strategies and it has a positive impact on the fashion value chain.

Grape leather is a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional leather made from grape skins and seeds leftover from winemaking. Is biodegradable, reduces the environmental impact. It is still a new and innovative material, but it has the potential to revolutionize the fashion industry.

Environmental Advantages

Our decisions can make a huge impact on our ecosystem and for that reason GT Portugal is focused on creating new solutions to try to mitigate our impact.
